Why I Chose Financial Planning

Why I Chose Financial Planning

My first financial plan wasn’t created in an office — it happened in uniform.

As a brand-new 2nd Lieutenant, a “butter bar”, at my first duty station, I found myself working closely with a soldier who was struggling with financial insolvency after a difficult divorce. He had lost almost everything and was trying to regain financial stability and control over his life.

We sat down together and worked through the basics: building a budget, consolidated his debt, and created a plan to move forward. Watching him regain his footing, and his confidence, was incredibly rewarding. Looking back, that was the first time I saw how impactful financial guidance can be. It wasn’t just about money. It was about helping someone rebuild, reset, and move forward with purpose.
